The Atlanta Regional Commission has completed the regional review of the Development of Regional Impact for Thompson Park. On November 1, 2011 they found that the DRI is in “the best interest of the Region, and therefore the State.”
The 536.1 acres “within this DRI” allows for three million square feet of commercial, retail and residential mixed use development and is conveniently located near major transportation and commerce centers such as Hartsfield,-Jackson International Airport and downtown Atlanta.
This is the second DRI to be approved in Parkway South. In September, 2010, the DRI was approved for the 453 acre Stonewall Tell site. Both of these sites are located in an Opportunity Zone within Union City which allows for Job Tax Credits of up to $3,500.00 per job for five years over a period of ten years. This incentive paired with the DRI paves the way for and encourages continued smart growth along the South Fulton Parkway and the increased interest and activity in the project and area is encouraging.
