In the early part of 2010, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) initiated the South Fulton Parkway Access Management Study to enhance the access, operations and safety of South Fulton Parkway. After three rounds of public meetings, numerous area stakeholder meetings, and some time-consuming engineering work, GDOT completed its study and released its access recommendations. The nine-mile mixed use stretch known as Parkway South was recommended for several new access points and traffic lights, as well as for a future parallel access road that will eventually run north of the Parkway from Stonewall Tell Road to Cascade-Palmetto Highway.
